LMA takes its fight to the Net

The Executive Board of the London Musicians' Association - Local 279 AFM (LMA) have approved a recommendation of the LMA's Electronic Media Committee to establish an informational web site ( www.DearTedRogers.com ) to promote its campaign for recognition from Rogers Communications Inc.

In response to the Board's unanimous decision, LMA Electronic Media Chairperson Ted Peacock stated; "We are disappointed and disturbed that the management of Rogers Television, Cable 13 have chosen to continue their long-held position that professional musicians not be financially compensated when providing services to their organization. As such, we felt it was important to inform the general public of that position and to ask for their support of our efforts to end this practice. We also felt that highly respected Rogers Communications Inc. President and C.E.O. Edward S. Rogers be strongly reminded of his company's legal obligations under the Status of the Artist Act. It is our hope that he will personally intervene in the process of negotiating a scale agreement with the LMA. We are confident the Web site www.DearTedRogers.com will accomplish these goals and are thankful for the LMA's full support of our initiative."

The London Musicians' Association - Local 279 AFM (LMA) is dedicated to representing the interests of professional musicians within its jurisdiction. Whether it is negotiating fair agreements, defending its freelance member's contracts, securing benefits such as health care and pension, or lobbying our local, provincial or federal governments, the LMA is committed to raising industry standards and placing the professional musician in the foreground of the London and area cultural landscape. For more information, contact Jeremy Price (519) 685-2540 or visit the LMA Web site at www.londonmusicians.com.
