LMA charges failure to bargain in good faith

By a unanimous decision, the Executive Board of the London Musicians' Association - Local 279 AFM (LMA) has voted to support the filing of a formal complaint against Rogers Television, Cable 13. The allegation of failure to bargain in good faith under the federal Status of the Artist Legislation will be filed with the Federal government in the near future.

The decision comes after attempts to reach a "first time" scale agreement between the LMA and Rogers reached a recent impasse.

Commenting on the decision, LMA President Paul Sharpe states "While the details of achieving an agreement may be somewhat complex, the main issue here is quite simple. Professional musicians that we represent need to get paid when they perform on a Rogers Television production. In lieu of financial compensation, they offer "exposure". You can't deposit exposure into your bank account. It's not going to pay the rent or feed your family. We need to resume these talks so we can resolve this, as well as other issues. Our decision to file a formal complaint was based on Cable 13's outright refusal to participate further."
